Responsibilities for this Position:

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems (GDAIS) has an immediate opening for an Advanced Technical Writing Specialist to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to draft key business documents that support some of our nation’s fundamental defense services. GDAIS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to compose and revise business materials for GDAIS and its clients. Key Responsibilities
The Advanced Technical Writing Specialist will plan, outline and draft technical manuals and other publications that relate to GDAIS systems operation and maintenance. It is also their responsibility to edit and format these documents. These writers will acquire and organize basic source material, including applicable specifications, engineering write-ups and drawing packages. As part of this process, employees will work with the engineering staff to research and interpret schematics, technical design specifications, interface designs and design diagrams.

  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the GDAIS culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure GDAIS’s services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to draft and edit business documents. The Advanced Technical Writing Specialist must have a bachelor’s degree in a related specialty or the equivalent, and six to eight years of related experience. Applicants with a master's degree and three to five years of related experience also qualify.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is prefered at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Qualifications (Preferred):

100% Compliance Mindset.
Good Computer (Tools) background with databases and Content Management Systems.
Some travel required.

Navy background on SSBN or SSGN Fire Control Systems preferred.

Knowledge and experience with development of specification documents is preferred.

Strong SGML/XML/HTML authoring experienced and experience in developing electronic documentation is required.

Graphics authoring experience is highly preferred.

Proven hands on experience with product development and test.

Experience working with Product development engineering teams is preferred.

Excellent planning and leadership skills are required.
