I. SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision, the Supervisor Crew Planning and Utilization supervises all crew planning functions, coordinates crew planning interaction with the OCC crew scheduling group, and strives for maximum crew utilization and efficiency in accordance with the Union Contract limitations and Federal Aviation Regulations.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Supervises planners in the construction of monthly bid lines, ensuring compliance with Union Contract and Federal Aviation Regulation limitations, reviews bid lines for efficiency, and confirms the crew bid package provides the lowest cost solution available to the company.

Primary liaison between Crew Planning and Crew Scheduling for short term planning conflicts and irregular operations recovery in concert with the Manager of Crew Scheduling.

Manages crew assignments and bid line conflicts for a 5 day to end of current month period in conjunction with the Manager of Crew Scheduling, focusing on crew assignment review for maximum crew flexibility

Ensures Planners perform assigned tasks in logical order and that they are using good judgment, prioritizing and completing daily duties. Will complete the required performance evaluations and provide feedback for each Crew Planner.

Maintains a positive working relationship and is the primary point of contact with Sales & Marketing, Crew Scheduling, Crew Travel, Crew Training, In-Flight, Flight Operations, Payroll and IBT unions for the crew planning function.

Produces crew member availability for each month, projecting areas for coverage where extra flying /volunteering would be required.

Evaluates short notice flight requests as needed, coordinating with the Supervisor Crew Scheduling as required.

Resolves crewmember pay disputes in accordance with contractual agreements.

Assists with recruiting, interviewing, and training new crew schedulers so they meet airline standards.

Assists with cockpit and flight attendant special pay requests.

Trains Crew Schedulers and/or Crew planners for both new hire and recurrent as needed

Accomplishes such other duties as may be assigned by the Sr. Manager of Crew Resources.

III. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management or related field with 4-6 prior crew planning and/or crew scheduling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A minimum of 2-3 years of airline operations and people supervisory experience.

1-2 years working with both pilot and flight attendant union contracts.

B. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Thorough knowledge & understanding of crewmember contracts and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).

Must possess a strong ability to manage one’s own time, as well as other’s time to ensure that the work that needs to be accomplished in a given time frame is, in fact accomplished. Hand in hand with the ability to Prioritize tasks when given clearly defined goals and objectives.

Must have a strong command for reasoned, measured decision making based on analyzing the pros and cons of each potential decision to be made.

Must be able to think clearly and decisively during non-routine operations and continue to make decisions that are in compliance with the I.B.T. contracts and also make economic sense.

Able to handle the pressure of on-time performance, reviewing all options to make a judgment call that will have the minimum impact on the operation, solve problems while dealing with a variety of conditions and situations and accomplish goals without compromising people, processes, and ethical standards.

Motivating, developing, and supervising people in their work so as to best achieve common organizational & departmental goals.

Superior customer service skills. Must be professional and knowledgeable when dealing with all crewmembers.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate with all employee levels.

Solid organizational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail

Proficient in the use and operation of AIMS and any other computer systems used in scheduling with the ability to understand the impact of the data. Ability to quickly learn and apply new tools.

Must be a team player’ able to handle multiple tasks in a high-pressure department.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Knowledge of Airline Reservation System, Sabre preferred.

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS

A. Travel Requirements

Occasional Traveler (5-20% travel): The incumbent will be required to travel on occasion. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.

B. Physical Demands

This position occasionally requires prolonged sitting and the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
