The position requires that the candidate provide technical leadership in the areas of design and software implementation of complex engineering tools. They should be comfortable working in an Agile environment in which requirements are dynamic and in which technical decisions are made collaboratively rather than top-down. We are striving to improve our software practices and so familiarity with and ability to implement modern configuration management, automated testing and continuous integration is essential. The candidate should be self-motivated and able both to lead a team and tackle projects independently. Ability to tackle software in a complex and challenging domain (mechanical and electrical engineering) is essential and the applicant should demonstrate a commitment to constant improvement in the software field. In our opinion, it is far more important that I candidate have the above qualities than that they have experience with any given software technology or a traditional software degree the candidate we are looking for will be able to learn new languages and tools on the job as necessary.

  • BS or MS in Software Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of software development experience with 5+ years in an Agile environment
  • Ability to work in a loosely structured, Agile environment
  • Comfort in working in an environment with rapid requirements evolution
  • Ability to improve the teams current development process in a collaborative decision-making environment
  • Ability to implement Agile technical practices including build and test automation and continuous integration
  • Interest in learning new tools in a highly technical engineering environment
  • Willingness to step outside of assigned role when beneficial to the project or team
  • Experience with test driven design and requirements
  • Experience in the Scrum process and Agile estimation
  • Ability to support customers in troubleshooting activities
  • Programming abilities (Java, C++, PHP, HTML, XML)
  • Knowledge of web technologies and web architecture (e.g. RESTful Web Services)
  • Relational database programming experience
  • Knowledge of design patterns and UML
  • Configuration management tools such as subversion and git
  • Build automation technologies such as Ant, Maven, Make, Autotools, Jenkins
  • Test automation technologies such as the xunit frameworks
  • Installation and packaging technologies such as InstallShield and RPM
  • Virtualization technology (particularly as can be applied in a development environment)
  • Familiarity with physics and engineering simulation technology
  • Eclipse development environment OSGI framework
  • Digital Control Systems and SCADA
  • Windows Linux (CentOS / Red Hat)
