General Summary
This position is responsible for installation, configuration and maintenance of all Fox's Linux/Unix systems. The system administrator will also support daily operations and help develop strategies to improve availability and utilization of Linux/Unix environments.
1. Design and Architecture
Participate in projects as the Unix/Linux resource.
Develop project estimates for Unix/Linux activities.
Perform systems architecture design.
Monitor patch releases and develop patch installation strategies.
Participate as Subject Matter Expert (SME) as required for design reviews and technology and tool selection.
Keep current on operating systems, hardware, 3rd party tools, and industry standards.
2. Maintenance
Install and configure RHEL and OEL using kickstart.
Plan, schedule and perform Hardware and OS maintenance, including firmware upgrades and patch installation.
Create and execute scripts for various OS and software maintenance activities.
Perform operating systems tuning including monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing performance of the Unix/Linux Servers.
3. Archival, Backup and Recovery
Develop archival, backup and recovery strategy.
Plan, perform and monitor Unix/Linux OS backups.
Perform Unix/Linux OS recoveries.
4. Security
Maintain and monitor Unix/Linux platform security.
5. Production Support
Provide 24x7 on call production support.
Serves as escalation point for Unix/Linux related issues.
6. Administration
Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis.
Adheres to and enforces department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices.
