This role, as the procurement director for ingredients, is pivotal to our business. Ingredients make up $235M annually of our costs, nearly 40% of our business costs. A high spend, especially in an economy of inflated commodities and record high markets, it is crucial that we manage these costs through innovative sourcing strategies - minimizing costs while maintaining the highest quality ingredients for our products. At the same time, our customers are increasingly asking for innovative new ingredients.

Are you a person who can:
Lead large organizations and influence other functional leaders to adopt new ideas and strategic sourcing opportunities driven by game changing sourcing strategies.

Analyze supplier and economic markets; identify and manage market risks and opportunities; identify and develop a supplier relationship management program that improves the overall capability of our supply base.

Coach, engage, and energize the organization to create and implement breakthrough material sourcing strategies; effectively negotiate commercial terms and conditions; apply business law to create appropriate legal contracts; manage business, legal and intellectual property risk.

Effectively manage relationships with all internal and external clients; develop and maintain superior processes for integrating external supplier ideas into the business.

Proven leader who has demonstrated the openness to act as a team player, situational leadership within peer group to influence business strategy, and ability to develop their organization.

Leverage supplier expertise and resources in order to bring innovative ideas, products and processes back to The Nutro Company

Has Excellent team working and interpersonal skills.

Understanding of food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices.

Proven ability to prioritize activities appropriately, and make trade-off decisions as appropriate. Excellent analytical skills for financial assessments and issue identification, along with flexible thinking to adapt to changing markets.

This Person will also decide:
How to best procure the $235M worth of ingredients and manage commodity risk. When to buy, how to buy, from whom to buy, for what period of time (coverage and market position), and under what terms and conditions.

How to best deliver value for money for The Nutro Company given the dynamic commodity markets? All decisions around managing price risk. Decisions in this area can significantly affect Pet profit and/or cause the business to cut investment spending in order to cover cost pressures

Supplier selection and all business commitments for the portfolio of the annual volume, within the limits of the Finance Manual and the Mars Quality Manual (MQM).

Prediction of costs, to maximize accuracy and delivery of the Pet’s business plan and P&L projections. Sets annual cost standards for all ingredients.

Qualifications

Required

BS / BA Business, Economics, Supply Chain or quantitative discipline

5+ years of experience in large-scale strategic procurement and/or directly relevant supply chain discipline

Experience in agricultural commodity price risk management and hedging

Experience in managing dynamic business environments, where price stability, supply availability and potential business outcomes were under continuous pressure and change.

5+ years experience in leading and managing multiple associates and cross-functional teams

Preferred

MBA is an added benefit

Procurement experience beyond ingredients preferred

At least 5 years experience in the food industry.
