The Health Information Management Manager is responsible for developing policies and procedures for record and data storage and retrieval, ICD-CM and CPT coding and coding compliance, APC and DRG assignment, timely accurate transcription, cancer program data management and RAC audits. The HIM Manager also serves as the HIPAA Privacy Officer and is responsible for developing policies and procedures to assist the organization in being compliant with privacy standards, and monitoring compliance.

RHIT or RHIA Education and formal training: Associate Degree in Health Information Management with RHIT certification or BS Degree in Health Information Management with RHIA certification.

Work Experience: 2-4 years experience in the Health Information Management field, 2 years management experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill people; uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers at all times. Actively functions as a patient advocate. Has a thorough understanding of the transition to the electronic health record and core HIM functions such as document management and imaging, transcription, chart completion, ICD-CM and CPT coding, disease processes, pharmacology, healthcare computer applications. Also possesses organizational skills, medical terminology, records retrieval and storage, data management, knowledge of payment methodologies and management experience.
