Cargill Pork has an opportunity available for a


, located in

West Des Moines, IA

. This position is responsible primarily for the negotiation and purchase of ingredients for Cargill Pork’s feed manufacturing. This would include company managed feed mills and toll mills which together provide feed to our pork production business. The individual will deploy buying strategies and oversee logistics execution. The Merchant will focus mainly on the needs of Cargill Pork to effectively manage our cost of feed and /or feed ingredients. Merchant must work cross-functionally with feed mill operations, formulation, logistics, live production and accounting/admin teams to drive execution of the business plan and measure the same monthly through utilization of business scorecards.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Merchandising & related projects associated with feed mills

  • Logistics

  • Grow producer corn origination program while collaborating with other Cargill business units

  • Create weekly and monthly reports (detailing positions, product usage, ingredient origins)

  • Evaluation of Alternative Ingredients & Opportunities

  • Back up Cargill Pork Sr. Merchant as necessary

Bachelor’s Degree

Work experience in agriculture merchandising or commercial agriculture

Strong communication skills (verbal & written)

Strong persuasion and negotiation skills

Attention to detail

Sound judgment and decision making skills

Strong organizational skills

Comfortable taking and managing risks and challenging the status quo

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Strong customer service aptitude

Self starter

Must be willing and able to assist in problem resolution after hours if needed to ensure mills keep running

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Agricultural Business.

Work experience in feed milling or grain industry.

Knowledge of grain futures and basis
