The Testing Engineer will report locally to Innovation Manager, Wind Business, North America based in Richmond.Champion a safe working environment to ensure that all external contractors are in compliance with internal Safety procedures, OSHA and local legislation (training on US OSHA required prior to assignment start).
Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) in accordance with OSHA 3071 under guidance of US Lead Wind Technicians.
Create and execute test plans for energy generation equipment and systems
Design repeatable, scientific, and realistic test procedures and provide test results to the R&D team in a fast-paced, iterative design cycle.
Anticipate failure modes for materials, systems and communication in various harsh environments
To achieve reliability targets on new Prototypes and Limited Releases WTG
Select, procure, design, and build equipment to carry out these tests with oversight from Test&Validation Manager
Support to commissioning, operation, maintenance and repair of Alstom ECO class Prototypes and Limited Releases WTG
Troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems on variable speed turbines and manage logistics on site
Provide technical direction and training to third party contractors to ensure that the executed work accurately reflects the quality standards and attention to detail necessary to eliminate rework.
Mentor and training US personnel WTG installation and commissioning teams
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required. Electrical Engineer degree preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Three years Experience in Testing wind turbines. On-site experience, with capacity to carry out installations and set-up measurement systems.
Power generation experience an advantage.
Safety as a core competence.
Demonstrated customer centricity.
Experience with accelerated life testing theory, methodology, and equipment.
Experience with systems of measurement (physical variables as mechanical loads, vibrations, noise and electrical phenomena) a plus
Experience with optical systems a plus.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage human resources, installation teams, third party contractors and industrial relations through leadership, timely communication and appropriate processes.
Proven capabilities to develop and maintain constructive relationships with local authorities, workforce, suppliers and internal business partners.
Excellent team player with leadership, drive and strong communication skills.
Result-oriented self-starter, willing to work in a demanding international environment.
Ability and willingness to travel regionally in the US with potential for overseas assignments, available for long-term period of time working in the prototypes location.
Ability to obtain required US work permits and visa
