The Berkman Center is seeking an enthusiastic System Administrator with strong people skills to help manage Berkman’s UNIX/Linux infrastructure. The proper candidate would be able to ensure smooth operation of the technological infrastructure of a world-class research center working on cutting-edge internet policy. Candidate would be responsible for installation, deployment, maintenance, backup, system uptime, and integrity of UNIX/Linux servers; participates in 24x7 support schedule; may refer technical issues to other staff when necessary. Working with great in-house talent, the position is ideal for someone who learns new technologies quickly, tinkers and solves odd technology problems, and is able to communicate solutions effectively to technical and non-technical faculty, fellows and staff.
This is a term appointment currently expected to extend through June 30, 2014 subject to department needs and funding.
Basic Qualifications BS or equivalent work experience, and 3-5 years of related experience in systems administration. Experience with RHEL, Ubuntu, OS X Server; Linux security, programming skills. Additional Qualifications
Familiarity with research and project management techniques, required. Strong writing skills required. Experience with Perl, Python, Bash or other scripting languages, knowledge and experience with VMware, KVM/QEMU or Xen, CVS, Subversion, and knowledge and experience with Apache and MySQL, required. Knowledge and experience with NetApp/NAS systems, Nginx, Tomcat / J2EE Systems, PostgreSQL,Windows 2003 Server and AD a plus. Has interest in and ability to master new software and technology quickly and with minimal training; enjoys tinkering/solving a range of dynamic technology problems and is comfortable in a fun, dynamic and fast-moving environment; good customer service and communication skills; adept at working with both non-technical and technical people; takes initiative, follows through with minimal supervision; patient, curious, and perseverant; flexible, able to prioritize and to manage multiple needs; works well as part of a team and independently.
