Provide department management and operations support to the Vice President and the Director of Underwriting in identifying, analyzing and implementing external and internal business environment changes. Also provides support to all Underwriting management in the implementation of HMSA strategic initiatives and other systems changes/implementations. The position evaluates departmental staffing and training and proposes any necessary corrective actions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Implement departmental changes due to internal and external initiatives. The initiatives can be strategic and tactical HMSA priorities, or driven by governmental regulations, or can be based on competitive pricing strategies that are departmental in nature. Identify risk factors and research legal requirements and consequences.
Assist management in resource planning, recommend staffing changes, create, align and maintain department job descriptions, conduct and/or arrange for training, and prepare documentation of workflows and procedures to ensure optimal department operations.
Research, evaluate and recommend action based on information in government regulations, technology and healthcare related publications for the Underwriting department.
Works closely with Underwriting Management on other HMSA projects to achieve timely and successful implementations. Evaluate and assist in the acquisition/upgrade of software needed for performance of the Rating and Underwriting function.
Work with Underwriting Management to evaluate training program. Assists management with selection of new hires. Provides input to staff evaluation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study and 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Basic ability to use PC with spreadsheet and word processing software.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
