Please post or otherwise make available the following information. The City of Nampa Recreation Center has an opening for a part-time Building Custodian .

Salary : $9.76- $11.71 per hour.

Hours: Part time up to 19 hours per week; varied schedule may include early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Performs custodial cleaning, maintenance of buildings, facilities and grounds and performs other support services to in-house departments and security. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Employee must establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in city buildings and the immediate grounds surrounding the building.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

1. Maintains buildings and grounds by cleaning, sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing, and vacuuming; includes scrubbing, spot cleaning carpets and disinfecting, emptying, cleaning and lining waste receptacles and disposing of trash.

Sets up and takes down chairs and tables.
Mixes chemicals for desired strength and proper and safe use.
Removes snow from sidewalks, parking areas and roofs.

2. Maintains buildings and equipment by checking and arranging for repairs, replacing lights and performing basic plumbing functions.

3. Secures buildings by locking doors, turning off lights, closing windows, carrying 2-way radio and reporting suspicious or unauthorized individuals.

4. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Some knowledge of proper cleaning methods and safe use of cleaning materials, disinfectants, custodial tools and equipment including hand and power tools and other equipment used in custodial work.

Substantial knowledge of basic safety practices and equipment related to work.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Ability to safely use hand tools.

Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions and perform shop mathematics.

Ability to prepare accurate and reliable record keeping.

Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.

Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.

Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.

Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
High School Diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Some (1-3 years) custodial experience or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

REQUIRED SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate.

FINGER DEXTERITY:
Sufficient finger or manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to operate a personal computer, telephone, related office equipment and maintenance equipment.

SPEECH:
Sufficient clarity of speech or other communication ability with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to communicate effectively and convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.

HEARING:
Sufficient clarity of hearing with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

VISUAL ABILITIES:
Sufficient visual acuity or other power of observation with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned; to make general observations of facilities and structures; to review a wide variety of materials in electronic or hard copy form and perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection).

PHYSICAL STRENGTH AND PERSONAL MOBILITY:
Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which enables the employee to perform custodial and related basic maintenance work, including operating hand and power equipment; stamina to stand and walk for extended periods of time and strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds. Heavy work – exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently.
