Bowhead is looking for a Senior Scientist/Engineer III to conduct research within the area of Super Sonic Particle Deposition or `Cold Spray' and in Advanced Materials Processes.
Required Skills Expertise and/or knowledge within the field of materials science and processing to include: metallurgy (ferrous and non-ferrous), materials processing (casting, forging, heat treating, machining), inorganic and organic coating technologies (thermal spray, CVD, PVD, electroplating), nonmetals (composites, ceramics and polymers), materials characterization, surface engineering, powder synthesis and powder consolidation method. Expertise and/or knowledge in the following materials characterization techniques: digital imaging, optical and electron microscopy (SEM, TEM), metallography, chemical analysis (wet chemistry and micro-probe analysis), mechanical testing (hardness, creep, tensile, fatigue, and fracture toughness), corrosion testing and evaluation (salt fog, crevice, galvanic) and x-ray diffraction (powder and residual stress) Documented experience managing and coordinating multifunctional projects that include research and development, test and evaluation, and the coordination of efforts with other personnel.
Desired Skills Experience in the development of models to describe physical interactions and responses of the ballistic impingement and consolidation of micro-particulates within a supersonic gas stream including: interfacial heating, liquid jet formation and the role of adiabatic shear instability as it relates to the bonding mechanism of the cold spray process.
