Responsibilities:
Own the design, architecture, engineering and development associated with Cbeyond’s Cloud Servers products including virtualization technologies, API layer for provisioning, defined user interfaces for provisioning (e.g., control panel), and supporting technologies (e.g., active directory, SQL server).
Work closely with Cbeyond Core technology teams to leverage and integrate with the Core team’s customer, order, service, and billing systems. Ability to leverage shared technology services from the Core business (e.g., quality assurance, project management)
Collaborate and work closely with product managers and executive team to expand on current product offerings that map to business requirements and product roadmap.
Articulate the business goals to the development and engineering team, and the engineering opportunities, limitations, and trade-offs to the business team.
Allocate development and engineering resources appropriately across various projects, juggling current customer/prospect needs with longer term product roadmap needs (weighing, balancing, & communicating the tradeoffs as needed). Provide appropriate estimates & project resource plans around regular releases of new features and product offerings.
Lead development and design of enhancements to existing systems and/or creation of new systems to support business requirements.
Identify and implement required changes to Cbeyond’s application, database, or hardware infrastructure to ensure high availability.
Work closely with third parties (e.g., Microsoft) to understand how we might shape future Cbeyond product strategy based on the direction of third party products and solutions
Ensure consistency and use of best practices in application architecture, design and coding.
Maintain high morale and motivate engineers to go above and beyond the minimum requirements
Manage team to complete program execution strategies, project plans, project team staffing, and project communication deliverables (release updates, status updates, issues and action logs).
Lead team of 10-25 FTEs
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Required
Technology undergraduate degree
Ten plus years of infrastructure engineering and development experience in a high availability environment
Deep expertise in Microsoft’s Vitualization technologies
Ten plus years of managing technology organizations to build new capabilities, enhance and maintain existing technologies
Leadership experience in building technology teams that consistently deliver on time, on budget, with high quality
In-depth knowledge of the entire application development life cycle, including gathering and clearly understanding business systems requirements, documentation, application development coding, unit and system testing, change control, and ongoing maintenance of complicated application systems
Demonstrated experience architecting and designing high performance and highly available multi-tier systems.
Strong analytical, problem solving, decision-making and leadership skills are essential; works under minimum direction and uses independent judgment in decision-making
Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to persuade and influence is key; must have the ability to be tactful yet assertive
Process improvement and process redesign experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong negotiation skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Strong attention to detail
Proven ability to meet deadlines
Ability to work in an unstructured, fast paced environment
Desired
Service provider industry experience
Expertise with Linux virtualization technologies
Deep expertise in web based technologies, database technologies, security, and network technologies
Masters in Business graduate degree or equivalent
