Our Cargill Salt business produces packages and ships salt for a wide range of market segments: Agricultural, Food, Water conditioning, Industrial, Chemical and packaged ice control.
We operate more than 20 manufacturing, processing and warehousing locations that make salt from three major production methods: Mechanical evaporation at facilities in the U.S. in California, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, New York and Ohio; Solar evaporation and harvesting from ponds in California, Oklahoma, Utah, Bonaire in the Dutch Antilles, and Los Olivitos, Venezuela; Rock salt mining from underground mines in Louisiana, New York and Ohio.
Cargill Salt services a variety of customers ranging from home improvement, hardware, grocery, and convenience store retailers, to food makers/processors, water conditioning dealers, and foodservice and general wholesale distribution. We make more than 1,000 different salt products and package sizes. Cargill Salt is seeking an EHS professional for its Newark, CA plant. This role will provide EHS resources and leadership for plant operations, employees, and the community for education, skill enhancement, and the development of sustainable processes to manage risk, enrich the community, and to ensure compliance with internal as well as external regulatory requirements and initiatives as relates to environmental, health, and safety in a manufacturing environment.
This position will assist in managing the EHS activities at the Newark CA facility and interact with professionals at other locations.
25% - Collaborate with plant operations personnel to support and promote EHS initiatives, improve awareness and understanding, and be accountable for measuring and ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory laws and permit requirements and best practices. Generate reports and documentation as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory record keeping requirements standards or internal requirements
20% - Assist with EHS recordkeeping requirements and prepare and organize EHS files for audits. Work collaboratively with plant operations to develop sustainable EHS programs and processes. Manage change to effectively implement strategies and tactics identified in reviews, audits, permit processes, corporate initiatives, etc. as relates to EHS.
20% - Provide a visible EHS leadership presence on the plant floor. Participate in plant processes including inspections, plant teams, weekend call rotation, supporting operations personnel when necessary, permit generation, training sessions, community enrichment events, etc.
20% - Provide a perspective and collaborate with others for the development and communication of safety and environmental goals and standards for the plant. Develop, plan, and track training sessions, inspections, and audits. Follow-up and assure completion of action items and gap closure.
10% - Successfully manage projects using structured approaches including collaboration with stakeholders, seeking innovative solutions, managing interfaces, proactive and effective change management, and project management tools.
5% - Develop and nurture EHS talent, skills, and leadership within plant operations.
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
Minimum of 2 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
General understanding of Hazardous Materials, Asbestos, Lead, and associated plans.
Knowledgeable in the area of occupational safety and health rules and regulations, including OSHA, ISO and Prevention Education techniques.
Effective communication skills (written, verbal, presentation) and listening skills with all levels of the organization.
Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
Proven ability to produce results through leadership, and develop trust and respect with all employees
Professional certifications such as CHMM, CSP, PE, QEP, or advanced degree
Industrial EHS experience in Salt, food, or chemical production
Manage various permitting, reporting, and related compliance
Knowledge of Behavior Based Safety
