The Department

With a team of 116 investment professionals and more than $380 billion in assets under management as of March 30, 2012, Fidelity’s Global Asset Allocation division (GAA) is a leading provider of asset allocation solutions for retail and institutional clients.

The range of investment solutions includes target date investing funds, active allocation strategies, managed accounts, financial planning frameworks and custom solutions.

Fundamental Research

GAA's Fundamental Research team consists of 20 Analysts and Associates in Boston, Massachusetts and 7 Research Associates and Specialists in Bangalore, India. To support GAA investment solutions, the Fundamental Research Team monitors over 2,400 open architecture investment strategies across all major asset classes.

The Position

Reporting to the Director of Research, the Alternatives Research Analyst will work within the alternatives research team to help develop the groups’ alternative investment capability. The position is located at the company's headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts.

Responsibilities

Help GAA build out its alternative investment capability by working in a team to develop an alternative investment program and work with the various retail and institutional investment solution products across the division to consider an alternative investment allocation where appropriate

Find and recommend investment strategies amongst both registered and unregistered alternative universes

Conduct in-depth on-site investment manager due diligence evaluations

Monitor existing investments in the alternatives universe and regularly publish reports including performance attribution, risk, positioning and outlook views.

Develop and communicate strategic and tactical views on alternative strategies

Stay abreast of developments in the alternative investment industry

Prepare industry studies, asset class projects and thematic research on alternative investment topics

Help to educate and transfer alternative investing knowledge across the division and the Fidelity organization

Qualifications

The following are key attributes for a strong candidacy:
Understanding of hedge fund strategies and structures

including L/S Equity, Event Driven, CTA/Managed Futures, Market Neutral, Global Macro, Convertible Arbitrage, Relative Value

Hands on investment and trading experience with derivative instruments

Experience with options/futures/swaps trading and structured products

Understanding of portfolio construction methodologies and the role of alternatives in a multi-asset class portfolio

Ability and interest in meeting with investment managers and critically evaluating their investment strategies

A strong network of industry contacts and resources

Outstanding quantitative skills with the ability to comprehend complex market statistics

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Strong intellectual curiosity and strong personal and professional integrity

Ability and confidence to work effectively in both independent and group settings

Capability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously with superior organizational skills

Proven track record of career success in demonstrably adding value for organizations

CFA, CAIA, and/or advanced degree in related finance or mathematical field

5-10 + years of industry experience with a focus on alternative investing
