Twitter is seeking a motivated and talented individual to join our Capacity
Planning team, with a focus on site-wide production Capacity and Performance engineering.
You should have a passion for large scale systems performance analysis and capacity planning / system logistics, working cross-functionally with various engineering teams to ensure optimal operation and growth of our computing resources from both a cost and technology
perspective. Broad experience in systems management and a clear understanding of scaling constraints, systems design and analysis is essential. Knowledge of data center structure and design is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
Support the growth and expansion of the Twitter cluster by determining
relevant metrics to collect for subsystems and develop capacity models for
new and existing applications.
Work with multiple teams across the organization to understand scaling
constraints and include them into Capacity Plans
Design and build tools to access, process and visualize data
Identify potential Capacity issues, and work with engineering, and
operations to design elegant, and efficient solutions
Present project and cost analysis in written and presentation form on a
periodic basis
Work with finance, operations, and engineering to perform cost and
requirements analysis for current and future projects
Qualifications:
Demonstrable knowledge of common scaling pitfalls and solutions
Ability to assess scaling problems and identify solutions
3-5 years capacity engineering or related experience in a fast-growth, large-scale environment
Solid understanding of data center resource planning and related systems capacity planning
Experience planning and building large-scale compute clusters
Excellent communication skills, and ability to work effectively across
multiple teams
BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Creativity
Desired Skills:
Broad technical background with a focus on systems and data center
engineering
Strong analytical and planning experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with map-reduce style architectures such as Hadoop or MySQL a plus
Experience with scripting languages, regular expressions, etc.
