Qualifications:
Minimum of one to two (1-2) years experience in the operation of a variety of power-driven farm implements such as tractor, cultivator, disc ripper, and combine in a large scale farming operation.

Previous experience mixing and spraying agricultural pesticides.

Must have valid driver's license.

Must have or be willing to obtain Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator's license.

Able to work overtime and occasional Saturdays during the growing season.

Experience with crop research activities desirable.

  • Position is 8-month seasonal and is subject to seasonal work break layoff typically from mid-December through March. There is a possibility of winter work on St. Paul or Minneapolis campus during the seasonal work break at RROC through a University Dining Services/Facilities Management Agreement (primarily in custodial or waste management areas). *
Duties/Responsibilities

40% Operates tractors and all types of tillage equipment including discs, field cultivators, plows and deep tillage equipment.

25% Calibrates, adjusts, operates and maintains corn and soybean planters, grain drills, seeders, fertilizer and grass seed attachments. Adjusts, sharpens and operates mowing equipment. Adjusts and operates rakes and baling equipment and hay loading and handling equipment. Adjusts, changes heads, operates and maintains combines. Calibrates, adjusts and operates sprayers.

10% Understands pesticide labels and mixes chemicals according to direction.

10% Maintains and operates grain drying and handling equipment. Samples, weighs and keeps grain records.

5% Operates snow removal equipment.

5% Makes emergency repairs to equipment and practices preventative maintenance to power equipment.

5% Assists with field days and outreach events.

Program/Unit Description

This position is located at the Rosemount Research and Outreach Center (RROC) which is part of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS). The RROC is a part of the Division of Translational Research and Engagement and is an extension of the St. Paul Campus. Many departments conduct research and maintain facilities at the Center with faculty project leaders from the St. Paul Campus supervising the research conducted at Rosemount.
