Regular, Part-Time (50% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawaii Kauai Community College (Kauai CC), for the Rural Hawaii 1 (RH1) Project, located in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $1,352.50/Mon. (@ 50% FTE).

DUTIES: Determines authenticity of transcript and accreditation status of institution; requests and evaluates additional information received from student or originating institution as needed; evaluates each course for transferability according to the institution’s transfer and system articulation policies; determines whether prior-learning credits through life experience and/or military training is college-level and student possesses the knowledge reflected in the coursework taught at Kauai CC; advise students eligible for Veterans Administration benefits of documentation required for evaluation; and determines course and credit equivalencies by comparing course descriptions and unit hours (consulting with faculty as required). Maintains current and future transcripts; researches available resources for evaluation and recommendation made by nationally recognized organizations; researches and maintains resource materials on international countries’ educational systems and becomes familiar with their educational practices; develops and maintains student transcript evaluation files, both domestic and international; provides counselors with updated transfer and evaluation procedures; maintains college codes and current system transfer database; corrects and updates student records as appropriate in Banner and STAR; completes advanced standing form electronically. Inputs credits awarded and course equivalencies information in student’s academic history via Banner and STAR; maintains and updates program and degree requirements in the STAR database in a timely manner; extensive data collection, analysis, organization, and distribution of information; identifies academic status of students and tracks and records data required to meet grant/project outcomes.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university. EXPERIENCE: At least three (3) years of progressively responsible and professional experience in an educational or administrative setting. Experience with transcript evaluation preferred. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Basic knowledge of educational practices, guidelines and resources. Functional knowledge and understanding of post-secondary education programs, practices and procedures. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and work well with others. Able to examine information and arrive at solutions or take appropriate actions. Ability to establish, maintain and secure student records and files, including computerized data files. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must possess strong computer software skills with commonly used professional software programs. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in English, Career Counseling, Educational Counseling, Counseling, Interpersonal Communication, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Social Science or related Human Services/Social Services field. Knowledge of or familiarity with Banner and STAR programs. Knowledge of or familiarity with UH policies and procedures.
