The Transfer Center Specialists manages, troubleshoots, and is the primary focal point for all patient transfers into an Intermountain Healthcare facility. This position is accountable for the prioritization and coordination for the expedient and efficient patient admission from any internal or external facility. This position will ensure that all transfers comply with state and federal guidelines along with hospital and specialty algorithms.
Initiates triage, prioritizes, and coordinates all Intermountain Healthcare patient transfers based on patient diagnosis, patient condition and mechanism of injury to ensure appropriateness, timeliness, and in manner that ensures confidence.
Obtains patient medical information to direct to appropriate physician, facility and specialty.
Monitor Intermountain’s tele-tracking system to make a recommendation for receiving facility and bed placement.
Validates patient insurance, to include verifying directly with the insurance company when needed, as “in network” with strict adherence to EMTALA, HIPAA, and administrative guidelines.
Proficient in Trauma, STEMI, Stroke, psych and rehab protocols for each facility/region.
Manages communications between transferring and receiving physicians, charge nurses, case managers, and discharge planners, while adhering to each facility’s protocols for individual’s patient diagnosis(s).
Directs all transfer-related communications with all other air ambulance or ground transport services.
Documents all aspects of the transfer requests and consultations in specialized software.

2 years customer service experience.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Typing proficiency 40 words per minute and computer keyboarding skills.
Experience working effectively in time sensitive situations.
Experience working multiple priorities simultaneously, while being able to make prompt, responsible decisions.
Excellent problem solving skills and ability to handle and manage conflict.

Willingness to learn specialized computer applications.
Experience working with HELP2.
