The role of the Language Program Coordinator is to provide "Extraordinary Care" to patients and customers through friendly, caring, courteous, and professional language services. The Language Program Coordinator is crucial for providing complete and accurate interpretation for patients, families and hospital staff in order to facilitate communication, understanding and decision making through informed consent. Interpretation is provided applying cultural sensitivity and without personal bias to ensure accuracy.

The Language Program Coordinator has many important responsibilities including:
  • Assisting the medical team by responding to pagers promptly
  • Assisting patients, families and guests to understand hospital services
  • Assist patients explaining and filling out forms as required/allowed
  • Participates in performance evaluations
Completing these duties provides the Language Program Coordinator the opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of many on a daily basis.

Shift Details: PRN. Must be available to work buisness hours Monday through Friday 7am to 6pm to take prescheduled appointments (1 day advanced notice), Must be availability to cover employees during vacation time working during business hours, evenings, graveyareds and weekends. Will work on calls and holidays following department rotation. esired

Minimum Requirements
  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree in a medical field, a language, Social Work, Education, English, or Linguistics. Intermountain verifies both degree attainment and educational institution accreditation following an offer of employment.
    • Four or more years of formal interpreter training or work experience as an interpreter
  • Excellent oral and written command of both English and Spanish
  • May require travel between facilities
  • Able to perform consecutive, simultaneous and conferencing interpreting as well as sight translation with a high degree of accuracy in both languages
  • Ability to understand and adapt interpretation to appropriate level for understanding and comprehension of parties involved
  • Knowledge of intermediate medical terminology in both languages
  • Able to work effectively in a fast paced, high pressure and constantly changing environment
  • Demonstrates linguistic and cultural competence
  • Able to appropriately use and interpret non-verbal clues in communication in both cultures involving the interpretation
  • Able to multitask, prioritize and solve problems quickly while under pressure
  • May require travel between facilities

  • Hearing/Listening, Speaking
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years or more of relevant work experience as interpreter
  • Knowledge of advanced medical terminology in both languages
