The Phlebotomist, Outreach maintains current professional knowledge and skills to independently perform dermal puncture on
all age groups (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult & geriatric) and venipuncture on pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric
patients. The employee is responsible for accurately identifying the patient and specimen and collecting specimens of high
quality in an efficient manner consistent with laboratory and hospital policy. The employee is responsible for the registration of
patients, to ensure all necessary demographic information as well as all insurance information has been confirmed as accurate,
and ensure that all necessary insurance pre - authorizations and pre - certifications have been acquired. The employee will
function as a courier when required by the needs of the office and complete annual courier training. The employee may also
perform tasks and provide general patient care in a physician office setting as directed by physician and office manager to
ensure seamless operation. Incumbent must also meet the departmental requirement of continuing education by attaining a
minimum of 6 hours per year.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Training Program/Course in Phletotomy preferred. 6 months full-time equivalent general phlebotomy experience. Formal Clinical internship including minimum of 100 venipunctures or 1 year full-time hospital phlebotomy preferred. PBT(ASCP) or Phlebotomy Technician(ASCP) or equivalent national certification required. Demonstrated ability to use computers (email, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.). Able to read, write and speak basic English. Ability to transport speciments to various locations throughout shift or as needed.
