The James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center consists of a parent site, located in Altoona, PA and three community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) located in Johnstown, DuBois, and State College, PA. With approximately 600 employees, the Altoona VAMC is one of the largest employers in the area. The medical center serves Veterans from a 14 county area in Central Pennsylvania, providing exceptional health care in the areas of Acute Care, Behavioral Health, Diagnostic Services, Emergency Care, Long Term Care, Pharmacy, Primary Care, Social Services, Specialty Care, and Women's Health.
This position is located at the State College, PA Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) and may be filled with a CRNP who possesses a relevant certification (i.e. Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health) from American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body, or with a Physician Assistant with an interest in Behavioral Health who has a current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA).

The VA Medical Center in Altoona, PA is actively seeking a full-time Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. The incumbent will be assigned to our outpatient clinic in State College, PA. Incumbent will work in the Substance Abuse Clinic and in the Behavioral Health Clinic areas, and will provide substance abuse, psycho-educational, medical, and bio-psychosocial counseling and guidance to patients. Tour of duty is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Qualifications and Evaluations
CRNP Applicants: Applicants must possess a Master's Degree in Nursing with completion of a university-based program for Nurse Practitioner. Must possess current RN and CRNP license in any state. Must possess relevant certification (i.e. Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health) from American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body.
PA Applicants: Applicants must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from a Physician Assistant training program certified by ARC-PA. Must have current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA).
The preferred candidate for this position will have a minimum of 2 years experience in the psychiatric and mental health field.
The preferred candidate for this position will have demonstrated initiative, self-direction, adherence to work obligations, effective communication and interpersonal skills.
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
Physical Standards/Requirements: Applicants for this position must pass a pre-employment medical examination.
Licensure: Must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.
English Language Proficiency : Applicants must be proficient in spoken and written English.
