Responsible for providing in-depth research, reference and technical services for students, faculty, staff and the public in a professional capacity. Provides reference desk assistance and may be assigned to various areas of the library depending on location necessity. Responsible for providing expert knowledge and assistance in one or more of the following areas , 1) providing bibliographic instruction and reference service to library users, 2) acquiring print/online materials and managing the collection management system, and/or 3) overseeing computer labs within the library. Researches, determines, selects, evaluates and recommends print, non-print, microfilm, and electronic materials to increase, enhance, and replace inventory through consultation with faculty and staff, review of trade publications and samples and analysis of existing collection; tracks usage statistics in order to make determinations of future acquisitions and routine elimination process of materials and resources. Prepares and explains the use of reference sources, such as bibliographic indexes, microfiche/microfilm, reading guides, and computers to locate information; provides instruction on library services to groups and individuals including access to electronic resources and related services and information sources. May require team teaching, faculty collaboration, and interaction with students in an instructional setting. Maintains budget materials as designated by the Library Director. Prepares statistical and budgetary reports as needed. Provides assistance with reference, interlibrary loan, reserve procedures, software applications, and minor hardware and software troubleshooting. Acts as liaison with faculty regarding materials acquisition and users needs to enhance and support campus curriculum. Works closely on various committees as they relate to the functions and services of the library. May be responsible for acquisition of materials, including accepting and evaluating gifts, working with publisher representatives, receiving sales calls, and working with vendors. May be responsible for utilization of the automated library system and online academic system including entering data, searching databases, editing records, verifying information, and blocking user records for delinquent materials. May be responsible for the monitoring of library computers, ensuring they are working properly, troubleshooting electronic equipment, and assisting students in the use of technology. May assist in maintaining archival collections, working closely with District Records Management. Acts as lead in special projects as assigned by the Library Director. Performs other duties as assigned.
Master’s degree or higher in Library/Information Science from an accredited MLS program plus one year of relevant library experience or one year of college teaching. Requires attention to detail, ability to assess needs and provide alternatives as it relates to library resources. A working knowledge of library oriented hardware and software. Ability to utilize computer technology to access data, maintains records, generate reports and communicate with others. Excellent oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with varying levels of DCCCD staff, students, vendors and the general public from diverse backgrounds. The ability to provide quality customer service. Official transcripts will be required. * Will be subject to a criminal background check. *
Position Specific Qualifications
Knowledge of current trends in information literacy and learning assessment.
Experience using a variety of online instructional technologies.
Demonstrated effective teaching skills, including the ability to design and deliver library instruction online or face-to-face
(experience in online instruction preferred).
May require the ability to occasionally lift and carry moderately heavy materials weighing up to 50 pounds including moving book carts, reach for books on lower bookshelves and sit/stand for extended periods of time.
