Special Information:
This position is part of a career ladder and placement will be at the salary level noted above. The full salary range of the Transportation Planner career ladder is $26,847.00 - $58,084.00. The ability to move within the career ladder is based on MDT advancement policy 4-0104, and state classification policies. For further details please email eroot@mt.gov .

This position requires occasional travel within the state to monitor contracts on-site and conduct desk reviews of local projects and programs.

Duties:
This position is responsible for maintaining accounting and financial transaction procedures, coordinating annual grant applications; systems, and business processes; conducting fiscal analyses; prepare budgets related to financial and federal grant activities; coordinating and monitoring the use of all state and federal highway traffic safety monies; and providing technical assistance and guidance to program managers and sub-grantees.

Competencies:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental accounting and budgeting; planning, research and analysis practices; business administration; Federal grant management procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; Governmental Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting requirements; and state and federal rules and regulations related to agency program and accounting activity.

Education/Experience:
Preferred: BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Business, Planning AND 3 years of work related experience. Experience in Federal Grant Management is preferred.

Acceptable: BA/BS in Public Administration, Economics, Mathematics AND 3 years of work related experience. Experience in Federal Grant Management is preferred.

Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
