Medical Technologist ASCP-AGP - AGP
Semi full time.
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Laboratory AGP, the Medical Technologist ASCP is responsible for conducting routine and complex biological procedures and accurately documenting test results.
Receives and processes various biological specimens in accordance with established procedures.
Performs routine and complex biological procedures using standard and sophisticated/specialized instrumentation and equipment in accordance with established procedures.
Aids in proper reagent and chemical solution preparation, labeling and storage.
Evaluates validity of test results using quality control standards, instrumentation function checks, and/or department policies and procedures.
Evaluates and records test results in timely and accurate manner.
Initiates appropriate corrective action to alleviate any deficiencies of quality assurance standards or established specified limits.
Consistently coordinates all work with co-workers to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift. Strives to be an effective and productive member of the institution.
Performs and documents preventive maintenance measures, troubleshooting and calibration procedures, on department's equipment and instruments.
Provides general supervision to laboratory assistants, medical technology students and others under training.
Always shows an awareness of proper safety procedures.
Assumes personal responsibility for on-going continuing education and professional development.
Completes all mandatory in-service programs required within stated time frame.
Provides instruction and explanation to patients and/or family member when performing point-of-care testing procedures (e.g. Activated Clotting Time, Template Bleeding Time).
Follows system and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains required BLS. Registry certification must be completed within one year from date of hire.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
Must have earned a Bachelor's degree in a chemical physical biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution. One year training in approved program with registry/certification at Medical Technologist/ Clinical Laboratory Scientist level (C H M or MT) or registry eligible. Registry certification must be completed within one year from date of hire. Knowledge and understanding of computer functions. Written and verbal communication skills. On-going education: must complete and document two hours of continuing medical education annually.
