Duties and Responsibilities:
Title V Educational Initiatives

Position Title: Peer Mentor

Performs duties of in class peer facilitator, which include:
Working one on one or with small groups of learners to support successful completion of course work within the STEM disciplines;
Provides specialized planning and preparation for associate STEM degree completion and transfer to UNM for continuation to a STEM bachelor degree attainment;
Answers student questions and provides information and instruction on how to use resources or find additional resources to support academic endeavors;
Follows specific guidelines for mentoring and class presentations.
Conducts class room presentations and data collection on all assigned work;
Maintains confidentiality of student work and progress consistent with FERPA, including completion of the online training, Securing Private Data.
Serves as a liaison between Title V/STEMUP and faculty and staff in CNM and UNM departments.
Participates in mandatory training sessions weekly (Wed. 2pm-4pm) provided by the Mentoring Institute.

Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge of specific STEM fields of study at CNM and UNM
Must have completed Math 1315, Biology 1310 or Chemistry 1710, English 1101 or1102 or Physics 1510. Familiarity with CNM and UNM STEM fields.
Computer Science majors must have completed CSCI 1151, 1152, or 1153.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Computer experience, including knowledge of Microsoft, WEB browser, and email.
Ability to work independently and to problem-solve
Experience working with diverse population. MUST be a STEM Major with plans to transfer to UNM.
Demonstrated ability to instruct a non-traditional, diverse student population.

Funded by the Hispanic Serving Institute (HSI) Grant awarded by the Department of Education for Hispanic or low income student majoring in a Science, Technology Engineering or Math fields.

Work Schedule::
Variable, minimum 10 hours per week.
