        682627 ) Description Patient Services Coordinator Job Code: 8519 Ability to underfill with Patient Services Coordinator - 8518 * High School diploma or equivalent (vo-tech preferred) * 1 year clerical experience * Experience in the following areas: responsibility for cashier procedures and/or basic accounting, clinic check in/out procedures, basic health insurance, HMO and basic medical terminology, general knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding preferred * Must be able to communicate effectively in English Ability to underfill with Patient Services Coodinator - 8517 * High School diploma or equivalent (vo-tech preferred) * 1 year clerical experience preferred * Medical office experience preferred * Knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard office equipment preferred * Must be able to communicate effectively in English (Verbal/Written) Position Summary: The Patient Services Coordinator is responsible for answering telephones, taking concise messages, scanning and indexing information into the medical record, handling requests for medical records and basic scheduling. This position requires population specific competencies. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires. Essential Functions: The Patient Services Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: * Takes concise messages when answering the telephone, correctly spelling names and identifying patient by two patient identifiers according to national Patient Safety Goals and HIPAA guidelines * Takes clear and concise messages from pharmacies, physicians and hospital personnel; directs the message to the clinical employee and/or provider * Enters patient information into IDX practice management system accurately and timely * Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits and records the information in the chart; completes referrals to specialty providers, home health, etc. * Gathers appropriate data to schedule appointments, takes requests for medical records and to start new patient medical record * Posts charges and payments onto patient account, working with billing office on delinquent accounts and assist in proper collection procedures * Uses diagnosis (including codes) and/or symptoms designated by the provider to assign appropriate ICD-9 and CPT codes to charge slips used to create appropriate billing for services and procedures Accountability: The Patient Services Coordinator reports to Clinic Business Office Manager Required Physical Demands: Keyboarding/Dexterity: Frequently; activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time Standing/Walking: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Sedentary (exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally) Talking (Must be able to effectively communicate verbally): Yes Seeing: Yes Hearing: Yes Color Acuity (Must be able to distinguish and identify colors): No This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. Environmental Conditions: Must be able to handle a high volume of telephone calls (potentially hundreds per day), and high volume of patient interaction (potentially hundreds per day), i.e., scheduling appointments, discussing billing problems, setting up payment arrangements, collecting past due payments. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and work in a high stress environment. May be required to drive. VII. Required Competency Test(s) MBS/PSC I MBS/PSC II MBS/PSC III Qualifications Qualifications: * High School diploma or equivalent (vo-tech preferred) * Successful completion of PSC I test. * Successful completion of PSC level II test for progression to Level II. * Successful completion of PSC level III test for progression to Level III * Must be able to communicate effectively in English PSC Level III Only: Education or experience using diagnosis and/or symptoms designated by the provider to assign appropriate ICD-9 and CPT codes to charge slips used to create appropriate billing for services and procedures VII. Required Competency Test(s) MBS/PSC I MBS/PSC II MBS/PSC III
