Western Trailers, Boise based for over 40 years and known throughout the Western U.S. as the premier manufacturer and service provider for semi trailers, has an excellent opportunity for a Design EngineerThe Design Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the design of new products and components used in the manufacture of tractor trailers. These trailers are used for flatbed, bulk commodity and specialty hauls serving a wide variety of industries. The position will require involvement in the entire order to build cycle. This includes the processing of new custom orders, the design of components and follow through during and after the manufacturing processes. EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school. Preferred experience in a manufacturing environment. Computer literacy: Basic skills with MS Word and Excel; Strong 2d CAD & Solid Modeling proficiency (AutoCAD, Inventor or Solid Works); FEA experience a plus
QUALIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Hands-on, team oriented, and work productively with a wide range of people An eye for quality and attention to detail Strong problem solving capabilities Strong engineering fundamentals, capable of assessing product designs Familiar with DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) and LEAN concepts Understands manufacturing processes and fabrication equipment Ability to manage priorities, projects and time Solid verbal and written communication skills PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work performed in an office and factory settings. Exposure to shop environment such as noise, dust, odors and fumes and occasional lifting.
