Field and Youth Volunteer Coordinator

POSITION GOAL: The Field and Youth Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for building grassroots power for implementation of the agency’s advocacy campaigns and will serve as the primary ambassador and spokesperson with youth and young adult volunteers and key community partners across our eight county service area. This position is responsible for cultivating and stewarding relationships with student groups, youth focused community partners and our sex education youth advocacy council to advance the mission of Planned Parenthood. This position requires frequent travel across the service area and a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Most of the work will be performed indoors in a climate controlled work environment. Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents violence, disease or pathogenic substances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES –Field and Youth Volunteer Coordinator:

Promotes an organizational culture that embraces the agency’s workplace values of respect, caring, support, effective communication, teamwork, collaboration, accountability and responsibility; and works with colleagues to create and maintain a workplace environment reflective of those values.

Represents Planned Parenthood’s mission and policy positions when speaking to external audiences.

Volunteer Management

Recruits, trains, supports and recognizes youth and young adult volunteers to further the agency's work. This includes interviewing potential volunteers and providing training to encourage the volunteer's success; tracking volunteers’ involvement, such as number of hours served and impact; working with other departments to ensure volunteer engagement needs are met.

Designs volunteer program to ensure that meaningful and diverse engagement is available where needed to meet the agency’s goals and creates opportunities for innovation and leadership to emerge including bringing volunteers along the path to donate and lead grassroots advocacy efforts.

Provides direction to youth & college divisions, grassroots organizing programs including trainings, leadership development, membership recruitment, and engaging young people in grassroots and legislative organizing and civic participation on targeted campaigns.

Incorporates current research findings and best practices into volunteer engagement structure.

Creates collateral materials needed for volunteer programs.

Field Management

Sets strategy; drafts and executes campaign plans; and manages deliverables needed to achieve advocacy efforts across the service area.

Provides leadership for community partnerships and grassroots efforts by coordinating a collaborative approach with all key stakeholders and crafting presentations, trainings and materials.

Initiates and develops a broad range of important coalition, grassroots and grasstops contacts that directly affect the reputation and the agency or its programs, responding to critical and controversial issues and actively seeks new contacts to expand our sphere of influence.

Represents Planned Parenthood in high level dialogues with external constituencies.

Leads action activities such as citizen lobbying, tabling, canvassing, community presentations, phone banking and volunteer trainings.

Organizes community events and all related logistics, outreach and recruitment.

Manages activities related to health center advocacy and outreach to involve patients and health center staff in advocacy efforts.

Create collateral materials for advocacy efforts.

Designs and executes voter contact programs and utilizes cutting edge programs including voter file management, micro-targeting, voter ID programs, phone programs, and integrated social media.

Ensures diversity in volunteer and coalition base.

Other

Provides timely reporting to supervisor, department Vice President, state office and other stakeholders as requested.

Develops timelines and budgets for assigned programs and ensure that tasks are completed on time and within budget.

Defines, tracks and measures the progress of initiatives against goals.

Ensure compliance with conditions of 501(C)(3) guidelines for approved activities.

Supervises interns and volunteers.

Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s level degree preferred from an accredited college or university and/or comparable training and job experience. This position requires attention to detail, strong writing ability, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work at a fast pace while managing multiple projects. Previous experience in legislative affairs or political/grassroots organizing required. Experience in coalition recruitment, project management, and database management helpful. Familiarity with media relations and 501C4 organizations preferred, but not required. Ability to work independently on multiple projects. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher & PowerPoint) required. Must have dependable transportation and the ability to travel throughout service area. Must be able to work flexible work schedule with evenings and weekends required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (20-25 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard, telephone or workstation; walking for up to 3 hours ( e.g. , canvassing, parades); periods of time outdoors in variety of weather ( e.g. , canvassing, parades, tabling, etc. ); and lifting and transporting tables and boxes of materials for outreach work.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Many tasks require oral communication ability.

BUDGET: Will participate in controlling supplies and maintain cost within budget guidelines. Handle budgetary task accurately along with adhering to agency guidelines in regards to handling money & credit card expenses.
