Water Service Worker I
East Valley Water District - Highland, CA
Under supervision, participates in performing water service work; participates in the installation, maintenance and repair of water or sewer services, mains, meters, and valves; participates in the operation of equipment such as trucks, heavy equipment, air compressors, jackhammers, and a variety of hand and power tools; repairs valves and ensures that they are working properly; exercises valves; digs and backfills trenches; lays pipe and taps water mains, conducts the turning on and off of water services, investigates leaks and reports service interruptions; advises customers of leaks; informs customers of water shut-offs for repairs; may be assigned to read and/or rotate water meters; cleans mains and flushes the water system; installs, repairs, maintains, paints and ensures the proper flow of fire hydrants, participates in concrete and asphalt work; locates, taps and installs new customer services; performs jetting and cleaning out of sewer mains and manholes; repairs and maintains sewer manholes and treatment plant tanks and reservoirs; disconnects sewer laterals; reads and interprets drawings, diagrams, and blueprints; sets up traffic control in accordance with safety standards; flags and directs traffic; maintains accurate records and logs of work performed; performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year of experience in the construction and maintenance trade is highly desirable.

  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must have the ability to obtain an appropriate valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) within eighteen (18) months of employment
  • Must have the ability to obtain, within eighteen (18) months of appointment, a valid Distribution Operator Certificate I (D-1) issued by the State of California Department of Public Health.
