The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency and one of the world's premiere scientific organizations. ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority affecting American agriculture.
This position is not to exceed 2 years. This position may be extended up to a total of 4 years at the discretion of management without further competition.

A Ph.D. is required
The incumbent is responsible for the design, synthesis, and characterization of organic compounds of low molecular weights that will be used as a plant growth regulator. In addition, the incumbent will conduct research on the encapsulation of resulting compounds in polymeric devices, and the following sustained release of the compounds from the formulations. As a team member, the incumbent may also evaluate the chemical stability and biological activity of the compounds.
This position requires a recent Ph.D in Organic Synthesis or Polymer Chemistry or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of synthetic chemistry, formulation, and instrumental analysis, such as GC, FTIR, and NMR are required.
Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
