The Boulder County Commissioners' Office is hiring a part-time, term Zero Waste Outreach Specialist to perform a variety of professional and technical work on programs related to outreach and education on zero waste, particularly with mountain communities. The position would assist community leaders with policy development and with implementing elements of Boulder County's Zero Waste Plan as well as provide education to residents of the target area.
This is a part-time, term position with an anticipated duration of 12 months.
Examples of Duties:
*Trains in and assists with complex work involving outreach and education working with mountain community groups and contacts.
*Assists with zero waste program implementation.
*Performs data collection for program planning and budgeting.
*May prepare reports, correspondence and articles for official use and public information.
*Attends a variety of meetings.
*Works effectively with other county offices, agencies, employees and the public.
*Develops employee and community education messaging and materials.
*Provides excellent customer service, including answering phones, web questions, etc.
*Performs related work as required.
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences or a closely related field.
One (1) year of experience in the field of environmental education, resource conservation or related field is required.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: An understanding of the technical issues associated with recycling, composting, electronic waste recycling, business recycling, construction materials management, hazardous materials management, collection systems and local governance is preferred. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office. Ability to perform moderately complex problem-solving operations. Ability to understand, interpret and comply with complex regulations and statues. Ability to keep accurate records. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with other employees, agencies and the public while adhering to county policies. Familiarity with Boulder County mountain communities is desired but not required.
Must have a valid Colorado Driver's License, and be able to safely travel mountain vehicle corridors.
