Description
The Addiction/Substance Abuse Counselor performs work involving the clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of addiction needs of clients. The Addiction/Substance Abuse Counselor works closely with the client to develop the appropriate treatment plan to move the client toward the desired change. The Addiction/Substance Abuse Counselor works collaboratively with a peer supervision team, with oversight from the Clinical Supervisors, to monitor the course of treatment.

Responsibilities:
Provides individual, family, and group treatment services to clients a minimum of 70% of work time.
Conducts assessments of client needs through interviews, diagnostic tools, and collateral contacts.
Develops treatment plans collaboratively with clients and performs agreed upon and necessary therapeutic services in keeping with strength-based, evidence-based best practice standards.
Maintains detailed case records and makes recommendations concerning case disposition.
Completes agency required and billing related phone calls, email, and paperwork work in a professional and timely manner.
Adheres to high ethical, professional, and legal standards such as State Statutes, HIPPAA, COA, NAADAC, APA, ACA, and NASW.
Actively participates in clinical supervision meetings as required to meet best practice and licensure standards.
Attends staff meetings and participates in training and quality improvement activities as required.
Works a set weekly schedule that includes some evening and/or weekend hours for client appointments (a minimum of 20% of client appointment times), working directly with Behavioral Health Services Supervisor who determines schedule. (Evening is defined as appointments beginning at 5:00 p.m. or later)
May serve as a representative of the agency to interested individuals, professionals, and community groups.
May administer specialized programs within a community or the agency.
May direct or supervise other clinical staff, students, and trainees.
May participate in program, line of service, or agency marketing efforts.
May participate in speaking engagements of behalf of program, line of service, or agency.
Hours
Monday-Friday; combination of day and evening hours with afternoon or evening groups. To start as 20 hr/week position with full-time position as caseload allows.
Travel to various locations for meetings, trainings, or to perform clinical responsibilities as needed.
Travel will vary between 5%-25% depending on position location.
Education/Experience
HS Diploma/GED Equivalent
Counseling/Advising experience
Ability to obtain licensing credentials
