The production shift coordinator has the overall responsibility for the operation of the production unit on shift. He/she must be able to create, promote, and sustain operations on shift that are (1)) inury-free and environmentally responsible (2) meet the production demands of the customers and business (i.e. on spec, time and on budget), (3) encourage and reward involvement and accomplishment.
This position requires a working knowledge of human resources policies. He/she must be able to recognize and reward good performance and improvve poor performance through coaching, corrective action, and progressive discipline. He/she must maintain close contact with the Operations Manager/ Production Superintendent, keeping them informed of issues in the unit so that the appropriate amount of support can be given.
The production shift coordinator must be an advocate of high standards each and every day. He/she must demonstrate awareness of HSE concerns and accept direct accountability for ensuring adherence by their shift complement to all HSE standards, all plan and company rules, and policies. This includes adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), Management of Change (MOC) requirements, and housekeeping standards.
The shift coordinator must develop and demonstrate a detailed knowledge of all aspects of the unit operations and utilize knowledge to solve operational problems and initiate unit improvements. He/she must maintain and improve plant operations in terms of product quality, raw material and energy usage, maintenance costs, and personnel development.
Key Position Requirements:
Monitor all production activities to ensure procedures are followed.
Complete incident reports for all incidents/accidents/near misses that occur on shift.
Enforce plant sanitation and housekeeping standards.
Execute safe permits as required.
Act as incident commander in times of emergency until management arrives.
Ensure WWTU after-hours check list is completed.
Ensure all production and safe work permit paperwork and records are complete and accurate.
Manage and oversee technician job performance and HSSE training.
Accountable for arranging vacation, overtime, and fire watch for the shift.
Validate shift time cards
Determine resource assignments for shift tasks.
Ensure raw materials are safely and efficiently managed to maintain scheduled production.
Ensure empty containers, and wastes are properly handled and stored.
Communicate and coordinate production activities with the maintenance team to meet production and maintenance needs.
Communicate/coordinate plant operations with Scheduler, Planner, Coordinator, and Quality Group Leader. As well as develop, update, and communicate the daily operating plan.
Review procedure updates/MOCs/communication bulletins with the shift.
Forward feedback to and from the shift as necessary.
Accountable to ensure raw materials and storage tanks are sampled and managed to maintain efficiency and quality.
High school graduate or equivalent education.
Position requires 3-5 year industrial experience including team leadership and group management experience.
Additional educational background may be substituted in place of the experience.
However, experience directly managing people is mandatory.
Perform all tasks required of the Production Technician job responsibilities.
Perform all SAP transactions required to manage production schedules, modify inventory transactions, as well as run efficiency reports.
Perform troubleshooting abilities to properly identify causes of production equipment and process upsets.

Proficient PC skills required for electronic communications, maintenance work orders, incident/accident reporting, and data retrieval (MSDS).
