Develop and maintain landscape lab serving educational needs. Assist Greenhouse Supervisor and Program Coordinator with horticulture duties. Interact with all faculty, staff and students regarding horticultural services, information and resources.
DUTIES OF POSITION:
*(DENOTES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
*1. Perform daily duties which pertain to the care and maintenance of landscape lab, plant, water, fertilize, propagate and apply chemicals.
*2. Lab liaison for landscape related classes: Landscape Design, Graphics, Plant Identification, Maintenance and Construction, Engine Repair, Dynascape, Sustainability, Green Roof, Wildlife, Rain Gardens and Perennial Plan Communities.
*3. Total control of landscape lab pest and disease management; compliance with OSHA and COD Hazardous Materials Coordinator and maintenance of MSDS sheets.
*4. Assist with all department sales.
*5. Train, coordinate and monitor the work of student workers and volunteers.
*6. Maintain safe environment.
*7. Procure, maintain and keep inventory of equipment and supplies for landscape lab, instructors and department, including an annual maintenance schedule.
*8. Create and maintain records of landscape lab design updates, plant and garden maintenance.
*9. Installation of hardscapes, structures and plant material as needed.
10. Conduct tours as needed.
*11. Develop and implement sustainable landscape practices in the landscape lab.
*12. Secure donations of supplies for lab projects and on-going maintenance.
13. Provide horticultural information as needed to faculty, staff and community.
14. Liaison with COD Facilities and Grounds regarding on campus plant collection database for classroom application.
15. Assist the Program Coordinator in developing special topic classes in the landscape field.
16. Assist the Greenhouse Supervisor and Program Coordinator as needed.
*17. Plan, coordinate and execute special events (i.e., garden walk, seminars, community outreach programs and fundraising events).
*18. Procure, manage and maintain records of auxiliary funds for landscape lab projects and on-going maintenance.
*19. Develop volunteer team, rewards plan and maintain records of participants.
*20. Maintain records of chemical applications and inventory.
21. Maintain equipment and supplies safely and neatly utilizing shared spaces available.
22. Create and maintain signage in the landscape lab.
*23. Develop municipal and residential partnerships to provide training opportunities for students.
*24. Raise and manage funds, develop student teams and plan excursions for participation in state and national landscape related competitions.

A.A.S. degree in Landscape Horticulture and Illinois Pesticide Applicators License.
Four (4) year degree in Landscape Horticulture or related field.
One (1) to two (2) years' experience in landscape maintenance. Construction skills, small engine maintenance skills, working knowledge of landscape plants and knowledge of computer systems and equipment. Proficient in written and spoken English.
Three (3) years working as Landscape Foreman.
EQUIPMENT AND/OR MACHINES USED:
Mower, blower, edger, saws, compactor, stone cutter, gardening tools, computer, FAX, cash register and motorized vehicles. Proficient in Dynascape and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). Must have valid Illinois driver's license.
Hours may vary. Occasional weekend and evening work required. May require heavy lifting up to 50-80 lbs. Use of ladders. On your feet 80% of the day. Working outside in heat and cold. Deliveries and pick-ups on and off campus. Phone skills necessary. Must pass physical exam at College expense.
