Serves as Breastfeeding Coordinator for the Midlands Public Health Region serving Aiken, Barnwell, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lexington, Newberry, Richland, Saluda, and York Counties. Coordinates client referrals by risk condition to the appropriate provider such as breastfeeding peer counselor, Certified Lactation Consultants (CLCs) or International Board CLCs. Assures appropriate orientation and training are provided to new and existing Women/Infants/Children (WIC) staff. Routinely evaluates WIC Breastfeeding program activities in all sites. In coordination with the WIC/Nutrition Program Manager, evaluates results of Program reviews and takes necessary action. Provides direct supervision of the breastfeeding program to assure all standards are met per agency guidelines. Disseminates and implements breastfeeding policies and procedures in all clinic sites. Assists in monitoring all WIC breastfeeding expenditures to assure compliance with federal regulations and USDA policy. Acts as a resource person for the WIC breastfeeding program staff, physician offices, healthcare providers and businesses, and community partners. Provides consultation, technical assistance and training to physician offices, healthcare providers, and community organizations on breastfeeding support. Coordinates with other program areas and assures integration of the breastfeeding program goals into program services. Responsible for breastfeeding outreach by participating in coalitions, and other community outreach events.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:

Must be a Certified Lactation Consultant. Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Community Nutrition or related field or Family and Consumer Sciences, Home Economics or nutrition related field with one year of related nutrition experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) years of experience counseling pregnant and breastfeeding participants; bilingual (Spanish)

Additional Comments:

Must have a valid driving license, satisfactory driving record, and use of a personal vehicle. This position will be located at the Lexington County Health Department in Lexington, SC
