The University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute provides exceptional patient care to oncology and hematology patients through innovative treatments and also by providing both clinical and basic cancer research. The clinics and patient care areas are managed by the USA HealthCare Management, LLC.
Essential Functions:
Assists in the total (medical and psychosocial) management of inpatients and outpatients under the supervision of a medical oncologist; obtains a thorough and complete history and physical examination of the the patient; assists and participates in, major and minor, inpatient and outpatient procedures; participates in daily rounds and management of inpatients; collaborates with nursing staff to address patient care issues as needed; interacts with pharmaceutical companies and other agencies in the procurement of medications and other supplies or services for indigent patients; dispenses and administers medication according to physician orders; calls prescriptions into pharmacies as ordered by the physician; interacts with patients and their families via telephone; works with the Manager, Clinical Operations to ensure compliance with OSHA and Risk Management; works with Supervisor of Clinical Operations to ensure physician compliance with federal and state billing regulations and timely completion of documentation; implements teaching strategies related to the education of patients and their families regarding illness, therapy, and care on an outpatient basis; stays abreast of current methods of treating patients by both state of the art and investigational means; participates in night and weekend call and rounding; maintains complete and accurate patient records; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program, certification as a Nurse Practitioner, and licensure with the state of Alabama as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse. Certification as an oncology nurse practitioner is preferred.
