The goal of the Senior Vice President, Business Development is to drive business activities at the inVenitv Communications level, identifying and targeting opportunities to drive the integrated model of the Communications group, provide overall leadership and mentorship to the inVentiv Communications Business Unit BD teams; to establish strategies and business plans that maximize the Communications division's value proposition; to set common objectives, open lines of communications and to provide clear and consistent direction; and to create and sell innovative, comprehensive solutions for client commercialization needs - targeting pharma and non-pharma health and wellness companies
Description of Duties
Develop proactive business development action plan, identifying and continually updating key targets based on client intelligence and resulting needs assessment
Responsible for reviewing the new business pipeline for inVentiv Communications and overseeing communications within and across business units to insure connectivity and collaboration
Drive inVentiv Communications' service offering development leveraging a strong understanding of current market trends and the competitive landscape to meet the needs of clients and potential clients in a dynamic and changing environment
Partner with inVentiv Strategic Corporate Accounts team as the inVentiv Communications point of access and support and drive development opportunities
Responsible for mentoring the business development staff and BU leadership on BD processes across the inVentiv Communications offices
Create a Business Development model to leverage the assets of inVentiv Health that brings ground-breaking, innovative solutions to large pharma, small and emerging pharmaceutical companies, health and wellness companies.
Lead integrated RFP and pitch opportunities including the development of cross organizations pitch teams
Responsible for assessing incoming RFP/pitch opportunity responses to best meet client needs either via an integrated inVentiv Communications level or individual business unit level
Participate as a member of the senior management team in long range planning, budget planning, business process planning and other corporate strategic / tactical projects
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline (Business, Marketing or Science) is required. An advanced business degree (MBA) is highly desirable.
A seasoned and well-rounded executive with a minimum of 15 years combined successful pharmaceutical marketing, sales management, and business development experience required.
Possesses broad knowledge of the pharmaceutical space and current macro trends within the industry. Able to participate in the Communications Group strategic business planning process based on a thorough understanding of industry trends and opportunities and effectively solve strategic challenges.
Proven ability to lead initiatives: motivate teams to work collaboratively to achieve objectives. Achieves organizational focus on key priorities. Provides clear direction, delegates, actively communicates. Superior project management skills.
Proven success in working collaboratively with cross functional commercialization teams with a strong business orientation and ability to view issues from multiple functional perspectives.
Experienced and adept in a variety of negotiating settings. Able to engage effectively; establishes a clear negotiation strategy and manages a tight process. Proven experience in identifying, evaluating and pursuing business development within new and existing key markets.
Experience with developing business cases to recommend and rationalize investments and other strategic actions.
Demonstrated ability to gain credibility through successful leadership in a matrix environment, across a range of functions, position levels and geography
Understanding of pharmaceutical service organizations and their revenue drivers is strongly preferred
Strong communication, influencing and presentations skills. Ability to fully understand advertising RFP and pitch process and to be able to create vision, establish pitch team, and to execute client pitch
