Full-Time, 80 hours per pay period. Hours will vary between 6:00am-11:00pm including weekends and holidays.

The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) will be responsible for performing clinical laboratory testing in all areas of the department. This employee will have considerable independence in performing testing and will be expected to use self discipline and judgment accordingly. This employee will follow all established standards of practice. This individual may assume some of the decision-making responsibilities generally assigned to the departmental supervisor and may be required to supervise the work of a student. CPR training will be mandatory for all MDMC employees providing direct patient/resident care or are in direct contact with patients/residents. Required Skills

Section I MT: Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school of laboratory science. Must have at least a baccalaureate degree in appropriated discipline or have passed HHS or HEW exam. All new employees will attend CPR training, and must be certified within 6 months of hire.

Section II MLT: Must be a graduate of an AMA School for Laboratory Science Course work as required for MLT and an Associate Degree as required by the Board of Registry for ASCP or NCA.

Must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or National Certifying Agency (NCA), American Association of Bioanalysists (AAB), or other approved credentialing agency. The registry-eligible technician must pursue the registry exam at the earliest date following employment. If the individual fails the registry five consecutive times, there will be an evaluation by the department manager for continued employment.

Active member in the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP), American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ACLS), and/or SD Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (SDSCLS) is encouraged.
