The Weitz Company is looking for an experienced Project Manager to be located out of Des Moines, IA .
The Project Manager is responsible for profitably managing all administrative and field construction activities related to assigned projects. Project Managers have direct control over Project Superintendents, Project Engineers, and Project Coordinators assigned to project(s). This person is also responsible to establish and maintain successful relationships with all stakeholders on his/her projects. Also, is capable of managing small– medium sized projects independently. A Project Manager typically reports directly to a Construction Manager or Senior Project Manager.
Business acumen, judgment, communication, solid leadership, client relations, negotiation, project management, solid construction knowledge, decision making, conflict resolution, tact, adaptable, analytical, coach and entrepreneurial are all necessary skills for a project manager. Solid systems experience with Prolog, JDE and SureTrak is preferred for this role.
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each previously stated duty satisfactorily. Therequirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to succeed as a Project Manager :
Education: A high school diploma is required. An industry related college degree is preferred.
Experience: Five years of extensive project management construction experience is required. Experience in a fast-paced business environment is helpful. Proven history of leading, teaching, developing, and mentoring others successfully.
Additional: Preferred candidate to have a minimum of 10 years experience in structural and miscellaneous steel project management. Participates in the planning and scheduling of construction projects as they relate to the Structural Steel trade. Oversees all aspects of management of construction projects; monitors and coordinates work performed with fabrication shops and field crews. Reviews and interprets designs, architectural and structural drawings, understanding design intent and can directing steel detailers to prepare drawings to shop standards. Ensures that shop drawings are in compliance with design intent of the project. Establishes performance and delivery criteria, ensuring that client and company requirements are being met; prepares project schedules, and plans material purchases. Maintains control of documents, drawing revisions, and change orders. Directs work sequencing to expedite project delivery and to maximize efficiency of fabrication shops and field erection crews. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
