Conduct site visits and workshops in India for the GlobalGiving Foundation. Gain valuable in-the-field experience while having the adventure of a lifetime!
About GlobalGiving: GlobalGiving connects organizations from all over the world with donors who can support their work. GlobalGiving's non-profit partners address issues in education, health, women's empowerment, microfinance, environmental sustainability and more.
GlobalGiving is looking for a passionate, motivated, and enthusiastic individual or a small group to travel throughout India for at least 6 months in 2013 to:
visit development projects and offer training and support to existing partners;
evaluate the work of partner organizations and report back to donors and GlobalGiving;
conduct outreach and run workshops for organizations interested in GlobalGiving;
and establish new and beneficial partnerships for GlobalGiving in the field.
As a field intern in India, you will spend 6 months in the country meeting with local change makers who provide critical healthcare to rural communities, rescue children from child labor, develop solar energy technologies, and more! You will act as representatives of GlobalGiving, conducting thorough site visits of GlobalGiving's partner organizations, ranging in size, capacity, and focus. You will work closely with local organizations and to identify areas for improvement in their fundraising.
You will have the chance to help us spread the word about GlobalGiving in India by reaching out to organizations organizing informational workshops about online fundraising and GlobalGiving.
In addition to seeing world-changing work, the In-the-Field Program also gives you the flexibility to see the sites! Take a day or two off to visit the Taj Mahal, go on a boat ride on the Ganges along the banks of Varanasi, and explore the alleyways of Leh in the Himalayan region.
Selected interns will participate in mandatory 4-week training in May and June at GlobalGiving's office in Washington, DC, where you will learn how to: conduct site visits and evaluations; analyze partners' online fundraising and areas of improvement; recognize potential for collaboration; and more. You will work closely with GlobalGiving's DC staff in preparation for your trip, planning site visits, workshops, travel, and accommodations, while gaining skills in organization and cross-cultural understanding.
Upon returning to the U.S., you will present your findings and experience to the GlobalGiving staff.
This position is unpaid and program participants are expected to fund their entire trip including on-ground travel and accommodations.
GlobalGiving will reimburse expenses for flights to and from the region for up to $1,500 and travel medical insurance. GlobalGiving will also provide a small communications stipend, training, office support, and workshop funding.
Job and/or internship experience in international development, non-profit management, or marketing
Self-starters who have demonstrated the ability to work independently and in collaboration with other team members
Cross-cultural understanding, responsiveness, and flexibility to changing circumstances (because things are bound to go differently than expected in the field!)
Travel experience and knowledge of the region is strongly preferred
Up-beat attitude and a good sense of humor
Relevant language skills are a plus
This trip is paid for by the volunteers. As a result, volunteers should be prepared to travel and live inexpensively.
