The primary function of this position is to develop packaging, cross category, based on consumer insight & market requirements.
This position will provide packaging options and develop packaging to support innovation initiatives. This position will also support existing business through packaging revisions, cost improvement projects, and packaging simplification projects
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Manage assigned Package Development projects, working with Brand and project teams, to meet category objectives and project ship to trade dates
Provide packaging options, develop, engineer, test packaging components and modify as necessary to meet: consumer requirements, functional parameters, cost targets, manufacturing & shipping requirements.
Provide technical input to package design process and assure package design for manufacturing acceptability, while realizing desirable aesthetic design elements.
Execute new package designs and perform package component qualification, working with suppliers and Manager, from engineering prints & prototypes, through to unit and production tooling.
Work effectively with Regions, Suppliers, and Manufacturing to fully develop and assure the creation of timely functional specifications.
Develop strong relationships and communicate effectively to manage projects with Brand Managers, Sales Team, In store Visibility Team, Product Development, Supply Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Suppliers, and Unilever Packaging counterparts & contacts.
Keep abreast of developments across appropriate packaging and manufacturing technologies.
B.S. Degree (Packaging Science, or engineering equivalent) and 1-3 years’ experience in the packaging field, as a Package Development Engineer, preferably in personal care products industry.
Must have highly functional computer software skills: Word processing (Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), Presentations (PowerPoint), email(Outlook)
Along with effective verbal & written communication skills. - Knowledge and basic technical competence in fabrication of plastic components: Injection molding & Blow molding and
competence in package materials converting & decoration: Labels, cartons, films, corrugated, specialty packaging structures (floor stands, PDQ displays), Vacuum Forms etc. - Basic familiarity with prototyping techniques and utilization of CAD desired.
Must have demonstrate understanding of package development process and engineering principles along with understanding of how to design and develop primary and secondary packaging components that meet consumer, Brand, customer, and manufacturing objectives.
