There is currently one position open at the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility. This will establish a list for future vacancies

Perform skilled installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical and electronic systems, equipment and instrumentation such as found in a major wastewater treatment plant; this class is distinguished from the Electrician I/II classes in that the latter learn and perform skilled work on City-wide electrical facilities and equipment, including street lighting and traffic controls

Examples of Essential Duties:

Inspect, install, maintain, repair and test electrical circuits, motors, pumps, generators, transformers, relays and other plant electrical equipment and facilities; use or develop a variety of electrical and electronic test equipment and apparatus

Inspect, install, maintain, repair, test and calibrate varied electronic information and control instrumentation and systems; perform basic maintenance and adjustment to real time computer control systems and soft-ware

Perform troubleshooting and diagnostic work on a variety of plant electrical, electronic and instrumentation equipment and systems; perform scheduled preventive maintenance as required

Install and/or work with or inspect the work of contractors installing plant equipment and systems; modify electrical, electronic and instrumentation systems to meet operational needs

Make or modify as-built drawings of electrical, electronic and instrumentation installation

Make estimates of labor, materials and supplies required to perform specific assignments; orders supplies as needed

Maintain accurate records of work performed and equipment performance

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required and other duties which may be assigned


Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent and two years of electrical and electronics/instrumentation installation and maintenance work; completion of a recognized apprenticeship in an appropriate trade, college or technical school coursework and experience in a plant or similar operational setting are desirable

Licenses and Certificates:
Requires possession and maintenance of the equivalent to a valid Nevada Class C driver's license within thirty days of hire

Knowledge of:
Principles, techniques, tools, equipment and materials used in the electrical, electronic and instrumentation trades
Operation and maintenance of a wide variety of hand and power and shop tools, test equipment and other equipment common to plant electrical, electronic and instrumentation work
Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work
Safety precautions for working around hazardous chemicals and equipment
Codes, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the work
AC/DC theory and control circuits
Electronic control and instrumentation systems and real time computer applications

Ability to:
Operate and maintain a variety of hand, power and shop tools and equipment used in electrical installation, maintenance and repair work
Work on high voltage electrical circuits, electronic information and control systems and other specialized installations including a variety of instrumentation
Estimate materials and equipment necessary to complete assigned jobs
Exercise independent judgment and initiative without close supervision
Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, plans and specifications
Make accurate mathematical calculations
Prepare accurate records of work performed
Establish and maintain effective working relationships

Physical Demands:
Duties require sufficient vision, hearing and manual dexterity to perform assigned duties and sufficient strength and stamina to climb stairways and ladders, to walk and stand for extended periods of time and to maneuver equipment and tools

Must be willing to work with exposure to chemicals used in the wastewater treatment process and be willing to wear and work in self-contained breathing apparatus; must be willing to work off-hours, night, weekend and/or holiday shifts; must be willing to be called back, held over or work assigned shifts in emergency situations

Supplemental Information:

The Civil Service Examination for this position will consist of a written exam which will be 100% of the total score. Failure to participate in the testing process will eliminate the candidate from the application process.

Any requirement not met for the advertised position prior to the first examination for that position, will be cause for Human Resources to decline to examine, certify or hire the applicant.
