Located in western Frederick County, MD, about 50 miles from Baltimore and Washington, DC, the Jefferson School is a 12 month special education school and residential treatment center, which serves children and adolescents with emotional and other disabilities who need more services than can be provided in a regular school. The Jefferson School is equipped for 84 students, ages 12 through 21, including 34 day students and 50 residential students and operates 12 months per year.

The Occasional Residential Counselor is responsible for providing regular or relief coverage as indicated by staff shortage or permanent weekend resident status in varying residential units. Under close supervision of the Residential Unit Supervisor or designee, provides input into the treatment planning and evaluation of resident needs based on resident behaviors. Assists in developing and maintaining a therapeutic environment in a residential treatment setting for assigned residents according to established policies and procedures. Communicates with residents based on the understanding of the developmental needs of children and adolescents and develops and reinforces resident''s daily living skills. Participates or co-leads in the daily activities of the residential programs. Documents notes for each shift worked for assigned residents.

Requires HS diploma, 1-3 months related experience and valid driver's license. Past Mental Health experience strongly preferred. Must be able to work a minimum of 4 shifts per month including 2 weekend shifts from 10:45pm-8:45am.

Must be able to attend the 1 week mandatory orientation (Thursday-Wenesday 8:00am-4:30pm).
