Basic Job Functions:
The Operations Specialist II will play a key role in assisting the Operations Center Supervisor (Shift Supervisor) by assuring the highest level of safety, health and environmental standards while achieving maximum production and profitability. The Operations Specialist II will be responsible for supporting all day to day Network Operations Center activities acting as the on-shift Operations Specialist for all assets under a First Solar O&M contracts from development to retirement of solar assets.



All functions of an Operations Specialist I as well as:


Maintain voltage schedules on plants that have a contractual obligations to do so.



Maintain proper voltage setpoints at the point of interconnect per Large Generator Interconnect Agreements



Collaborate with the Regional Maintenance Managers to ensure proper outage planning for all sites under O&M Cognizance



Coordinate with the planner/scheduler to update the weekly/monthly schedules.



Subject Matter Expert for O&M software tools including Maximo, PlantView, Wonderware, etc.



Lead maintenance activities and complex evolutions that occur on site with an emphasis at all times with regards to safety.



Develop and implement processes and procedures to assure compliance with internal controls and quality control for customers and field personnel.



Perform weekly outage classification reviews to meet contractual requirements and properly true up customer Liquidated Damages or First Solar Bonus Payments



Enforce Department of Ministry requirements for all Canadian Assets

Experience:


6-8 years experience in power plant operations with high voltage experience.



Able to demonstrate competent technical knowledge of plant and system processes and experience in operating electrical and SCADA systems.



Ability to use anilitical software to analyze equipment performance and identify performance issues.



Past interaction with NERC, WECC and CAISO regulations.



Possess knowledge of functional systems interactions and must be able to pay attention to critical elements in a complex and regulated environment.



1 year experience working as a computerized control room operator is highly desired, but not required.

Education:


BS degree or formal operations apprenticeship training or equivalent



Experience may be considered if relevant

Ability to take direction, identify problems, develop solutions, conduct analysis independently and in collaboration with others



Ability to work in difficult customer situations



Ability to work in a high stress environment where decisions directly impact personnel safety and equipment reliability



Available for 24-hour on-call duty to meet customer requirements

Technical:


Proficient computer skills using MS Excel, MS Project, MS Word, and Outlook



Experience working with and troubleshooting plant SCADA systems and computerized maintenance management systems. (Maximo)



Knowledge of Power Factor/Voltage Control systems required



SQL Experience is a plus



Development of Procedures and Processes



Familiarity with regulatory operating and reporting requirements State/FERC/NERC/WECC
