Supervise preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual sales,use, property, and other non-income tax compliance
•Supervise sale/use/property tax audits
•Develop and support sales use and property tax positions
•Identify and implement process improvements/changes to internal procedures and guidelines
•Champion the automation of sales/use/property tax processes
•Participate in ERP system’s design, maintenance and implementation related to sales/use/property to ensure compliance, enhance efficiency and minimize expense
•Prepare tax footnotes and related disclosures
•Conduct tax research and prepare technical memoranda as required
•Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley internal control procedures
•Other assigned tax projects or tax planning as needed
Bachelor's degree in in Accounting or related field OR the equivalent combination of formal education, training and/or experience.
Experience demonstrating skill performing the following financial tax functions:
- Performing transactions (indirect) tax, with focus in sales/use, and property (e.g., property, federal excise tax and assessments etc.)
Experience demonstrating skill performing the following tax functions:
- Lead the preparation and review of state and local non-income tax returns.
- Tax transaction support and due diligence, including the tax treatment of transactions and the application of FAS 5.
- Compliance with established financial processes and controls related to all responsibilities (e,g.,SOX) as well as continuous evaluation of those controls to ensure their ongoing effectiveness.
Experience demonstrating skill leading, mentoring and training tax team members and ensuring active staff development.
Experience in analyzing and reviewing statues, regulations and case law, as well as extract data, and make recommendations.
Experience demonstrating skill working with tax and accounting systems, e.g., SAP, PowerTax, Vertex, etc.
Knowledge of tax laws and regulations, and SEC accounting requirements, including ASC 740 (FAS 109, FIN 48).
Ability and willingness to develop and implement process improvements.
Ability and willingness to work on multiple assignments/projects in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
Ability and willingness to work non-standard and extended hours, rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays and during system emergencies, as required.
Ability and willingness to travel to various work locations.
Ability and willingness to perform a second role in accordance with PHI's Emergency Preparedness Guidelines for all employees.
Must successfully pass a qualification test.
Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must successfully pass a Medical Screening to include a drug test.
CPA and/or post-graduate degree
Five or more years of corporation tax experience.
Experience demonstrating skill performing the following regulatory tax functions:
- Regulatory tax accounting, including interpretation and implementation of regulatory reporting requirements and formula rates.
- Support meeting the external audit requirements for tax (regulatory management audits).
- Support the preparation of required information in response to data requests from regulatory agencies.
Extensive experience demonstrating skill interacting with Financial Reporting and Accounting, Regulatory, Treasury and Legal functions.
Experience demonstration skill managing the compliance function, with focus in sales/use, property and non-income tax filings.
Experience demonstrating skill interacting with tax management to discuss tax issues, reporting requirements, status of remediation, areas of tax risk, and other current developments.
Experience demonstrating skill preparing and reviewing tax disclosures for Form 10-K and 10-Q.
Knowledge of FAS 71, FERC/Regulatory accounting standards and tax implications, tax capitalization regulations.
Experience demonstrating skill preparing budgets and projection of sales/use, property and non-income tax, projected cash flows related to non-income taxes.
Experience demonstrating skill working in a utility or regulated environment.
Experience demonstrating skill managing employees including conducting performance appraisals, providing feedback, training and coaching.
Experience demonstrating skill managing sales/use/property tax audits, including proactively evaluate potential tax exposures, develop and implement audit strategies, provide timely communication of audit results to management
