The community online news web site is looking for freelance reporters with journalism backgrounds and strong news judgment to cover city-specific events, breaking news, investigative pieces, and news features.

The ideal candidates are based in Hercules or neighboring West Contra Costa cities, are strong news reporters, possess deep knowledge of the communities, and will pitch ideas as well as cover assigned stories. Ability to work on short notice and occasional evenings and weekends a huge plus.

You should be comfortable with online journalism, as you will work in the Patch content management system and produce stories with links to relevant online resources, upload your photos or videos, and jump in and engage with readers who comment on your stories. Payment ranges from $25 to $200 or more, depending on the length of the story and the reporting time involved.
