The SEIU UHW-West & Joint Employer Educational Fund, a Labor-Management Fund organized to provide educational and training opportunities for healthcare workers, has a position available for a Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist. This is a salaried, exempt position based in our Los Angeles office and reporting to an Assistant Director. It is currently temporary for one year, based on grant funding.

The Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist provides career counseling and academic counseling to eligible healthcare workers. In addition, this individual assists in scheduling and monitoring training programs for union healthcare workers, either on site at the healthcare facility or at community colleges. This position works as part of a collaborative effort with Education Fund staff, unions, healthcare employers and their employees, community college staff; bookstore, business office, counselors, deans and instructors to develop, implement, and provide tuition reimbursements or stipends so that workers can upgrade their careers. The Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist is responsible for program outreach activities, recruiting program participants, counseling employees who are being laid off, academic counseling, maintaining quality case notes, tracking contacts, reporting outcomes, providing group workshops and collecting and maintaining documentation.

The Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist meets individually with participants to provide advice and guidance on career paths within the healthcare field. Additionally, the successful applicant will deliver workshops on counseling and support topics, as well as provide individual assessments, enrollment, case management and referral services to participants while maintaining relevant education plans, case files, tracking reports, and written compliance reports.

Travel to training locations, including overnight trips, may be occasionally required.
