DescriptionThe Sr. Communications Consultant is responsible for providing complex communications consultation, communications planning, implementation and recommended solutions for Kaiser Permanente programs and projects to meet organizational brand and reputation goals. The main focus of this Consultant will be Health Care Reform Communications, with the scope of work expanding to additional areas as needed. This may include print publications, web, and other new and social media.

This position will be a liaison between the Communications department and internal stakeholders, providing communications expertise, managing communications projects and working closely with clients to ensure all deliverables, both print and electronic, meet client needs, business objectives and all regulatory, legal and compliance requirements. Essential Functions: * Provide consultation & guidance to internal stakeholders helping them articulate, develop, and clarify communication objectives and expected outcomes * Consulting activity will vary from verbal communications or advice on communications issues to providing written customized plans * Strategize with client, write creative briefs, research & analyze information, prepare presentations, plan logistics, and manage overall coordination * Develop & implement short/long-term communications plans/tactics to fulfill the objectives of the region/stakeholder * Leverage knowledge from multiple sources including Program Office, marketing, medical operations and other sources * Ensure internal communications activities are consistent with the KP brand in terms of tone, manner, and messaging * Manage & complete multiple assignments in short time frames and coordinate diverse projects/activities into a cohesive & strategic program * Decide appropriate solution for problems that arise during projects & manage projects as assigned * Negotiate scope, budget, and objectives of projects * Advise client of budget responsibility & obtain needed approvals for project and content expenditures. Provide cost and time estimates to clients for each project. Educate clients about the cost effectiveness of electronic communications & encourage the use of new media * Keep up with new trends in communications technology, including new & social media and other web-based platforms * Implement measures to determine effectiveness of communications programs & create plans to improve results * Communicate clearly across the communications team expectations, accountabilities & project instructions * Plan, develop, and implement production schedules and coordinate deadlines with writers, designers, and print production coordinator * Advise department managers on communication issues, client needs, and department workload * Coordinates the deliverables of other communicators in the organization to ensure that special projects are in compliance with negotiated timelines/financial allocations * Consult with Print Buyer and Fulfillment supervisor to assure feasibility and cost effectiveness of proposed designs * Review & approve digital proofs before projects proceed to production * Ensure timely & accurate fulfillment/distribution of all materials * Participate in the KPNW Community of Practice for Communication Consultant QualificationsBasic Qualifications: * A minimum of 5 years of experience in a corporate communications environment, preferably within healthcare * A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience of entry-level communications staff * Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience * Experience directing new and social media campaigns, directing special events * Experience tracking budgets * Proven project management skills * Thorough knowledge of publication production * Demonstrated knowledge of Macintosh and Microsoft Office software including PowerPoint * Demonstrated ability to create diverse collateral for a variety of audiences * Working knowledge of communications tactics and approaches * Working knowledge of computerized database systems * Working knowledge of web-based communication/new and social media * Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of personality types * Ability to handle multiple projects at one time * Ability to communicate effectively about design issues and objectives * Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and serve as a consultant and resource to department clients * Ability to make sound decisions autonomously and to act independently in the best interests of the organization * Regularly contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards * Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, detail oriented, and decision making skills * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Excellent organizational and time management skills * Ability to maintain high productivity amid competing priorities and tight deadlines Preferred Qualifications: * A minimum of 7 years of experience in a corporate communications environment * A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience of entry-level communications staff * Masters degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field * Recent experience in planning and implementing complex communications plans and projects for a large complex organization with agency and a health care background, with track record of increasing responsibility * Considered functional expert in field within KP * Ability to make sound decisions autonomously and to act independently in the best interests of KPNW * Employs expertise as a generalist or specialist * Thorough knowledge of health care insurance industry * Thorough knowledge of policies, practices and systems * Working knowledge of portable document format (PDF) technologies, file transfer, encoding, and compression options * Working knowledge of Kaiser Permanente writing style, voice and graphic standards * Frequently contributes to the development of new theories and methods This is a temporary part-time position, 20 hours per week Salary Range: $34.65 - $47.46 Primary Location: Oregon-Portland-Kaiser Permanente Building 500 NE Multnomah St.
