Position Title: Bank Teller

Department: Operations

Location: Designated Bank Facility

Reports To : Branch Manager/Teller Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Hours : Full-time position – 40 hours per week (including Saturday rotations)

The incumbent is responsible for assisting customers in day-to-day transactions, maintaining cash drawer, closing bank as necessary and answering telephone in a courteous and professional manner. This position must have superior customer service skills and cash handling ability. Exercises trustworthy service, courtesy, tact and diplomacy in dealing with others. Work can be highly confidential in nature and involves the skilled use of a computer.


  • Provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Give account balances to customers.
  • Cash checks for customers, handle deposits, withdrawals, money orders, cashier checks, traveler’s checks and credit card advances.
  • Print counter checks and deposit slips for customers.
  • Balance and maintain cash drawer.
  • Cross-sell all bank products.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures as assigned.
  • Perform end of day recap in absence of Head Teller/Supervisor.
  • Close checking and savings accounts as necessary.
  • Transfer funds.
  • Process night deposits.
  • Answer telephone in a courteous manner.
  • Accept loan payments.
  • Stock desk/teller supplies.
  • Perform any other related duties as may be required or assigned.
  • Included in Saturday work rotations.
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. High school diploma or GED equivalent; Minimum 2 years customer service and cash handling experience required; Banking experience preferred; Willingness and desire for continuous learning in order to maintain and enhance professional expertise in field.

    Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.

    Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.

    Works under general supervision where standard practice enables the employee to proceed alone on routine work, referring all questionable cases to supervisor. Capable of working independently or with a team.

    Limited responsibility with regard to general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work operations.

    Performs work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of minor importance and which would not only affect the operating efficiency of the individual involved, but would also affect the work operations of other employees and/or customer to a slight degree.
    Ability to maintain confidentiality.

    Moderate mental demand.     Regular use of complex machines (i.e. desktop/laptop computer and software, copy machines, scanners, printers, fax, 10-key calculator, multi-line telephone system, etc.)

    Regular contacts with customers, either within the branch or in the field. May also involve occasional self-initiated contacts to customers or potential customers. Lack of tact and judgment may result in a limited type of problem and/or embarrassment for the organization.

    Contacts of considerable importance within the department or branch, such as those required in coordination of effort, or frequent contacts with other departments or offices, generally in normal course of performing duties. Requires tact in discussing problems and presenting data and making recommendations, but responsibility for action and decision reverts to others.

    Intermediate: Word Processing/Typing
    Basic: 10-Key, Alphanumeric Data Entry, Database

    High School Diploma or GED Equivalent; Able to communicate (oral/written) in English fluently; Minimum 2 years Customer Service and Cash Handling experience required; Bank Teller experience preferred.
